Why a WMS, not just stock tracking?

A stock file tells you how much you have left — in theory. A WMS (Warehouse Management System) tells you where every unit is, where it came from, who moved it and when. That is the difference between declared stock and a warehouse you actually run: inbound and outbound recorded in real time, operations guided on a mobile terminal, discrepancies caught as they happen rather than at the annual count.

Receiving and put-away

Receiving is driven by supplier orders: the operator checks received quantities against expected quantities, flags discrepancies and records lots at the door. Goods are then put away into identified locations — every unit enters the warehouse with an address.

Zones, locations and multi-warehouse

The warehouse is structured into zones and locations: every reference has a precise address, which speeds up put-away as much as picking. The WMS handles several warehouses, each with its own layout, and transfers between sites are traced like any other movement.

Picking, shipping and internal transfers

Orders to prepare become picking lists executed on a mobile terminal, location by location. Shipping closes the outbound flow, and internal transfers — between locations, between warehouses or to sales vehicles — follow the same principle: no movement without a trace.

For a distributor, this same flow feeds deliveries and routes directly: what the warehouse prepares, the field delivers.

Inventories on mobile terminals

Counts are done by scanner, zone by zone or location by location: the operator scans the barcode, enters the counted quantity and the WMS computes discrepancies immediately. Short, frequent counts replace the marathon inventory — and the stock figure becomes one you can trust again.

Lot tracking and complete traceability

Every item is tracked by reference, lot and location, from receiving to shipping. And every movement — inbound, outbound, transfer, count — is timestamped with the operator who performed it and the quantity involved. The movement history and activity log let you reconstruct a lot's journey or explain a discrepancy in minutes, not binders.

Stock thresholds and automatic alerts

Set a minimum stock threshold (safety stock) per item: as soon as an item falls below its threshold, it is flagged in the dashboard alerts — replenishment becomes something you anticipate rather than endure. Combined with stock tracking across the whole chain, warehouse and vehicles included, you always know what to reorder.

Finally, the WMS synchronizes with your ERP — including SAP — through a dedicated integration module: items, stock and documents flow between both systems with no re-entry.
